2019 Recap and 2020 Goals

Hey Everyone!

Happy New Year!!!

Now that it's the new year, I wanted to give y'all a quick overview of 2019 and a few of my goals for 2020.

First off, I want to recap 2019. This was a hard year for me. I made some pretty big mistakes, and God had to teach me some tough lessons the hard way, in addition to this being a rough year for my whole family in general. But God's been faithful. My family came out stronger at the end of the year, and I personally came out stronger, and I'm excited to take the lessons I've been taught to heart and to apply them in the new year and see what the Lord has in store for me. So, without further ado, in 2019 I...

-Started working at the Freedom Foundation. As many of you know, I took Oak Brook College of Law's paralegal program and completed it October of 2018. To be honest I didn't really want to be a paralegal when I was done, but my Mom and Dad convinced me to apply for a job that a friend also worked for, and I was hired by the Freedom Foundation on January 31st. I've been so blessed to work with such great people who are so dedicated to freedom! Freedom Foundation focuses on releasing the stranglehold that public sector unions have on our government. In my time there I've helped file 2 cases in Oregon, helped file for intervention in a case before the Supreme Court (although sadly we were denied intervenor status) and have been able to help so many individuals who were being abused by their unions.

-Got a new baby brother!!! Joseph was born in February this month a couple days after my 19th birthday. Jojo is such a precious little chunker and I'm so glad God saw fit to add him to our family!!! Love you little buddy. ;) And yay for having 11 siblings!!!

-Was in 2 accidents. My escapade in December 2018 missed making that 3 accidents by 2 days, but mathematically all three accidents happened within the space of a year (within 365 days). I was involved in a bike accident in late July. I'll touch on that more in a future post, but I still haven't healed completely from it. I injured my leg and I'm currently going to physical therapy to regain strength and mobility in my left leg. Praise the Lord I'm still able to be up and about on my feet! I just have a limp. Anywho, more on that later.

Second accident was on the way back home from a Christmas party. I was riding with my 2 older brothers Isaac and Daniel and the vehicle slid on the road that we live on. Somehow we didn't roll down the hill on the side of the road and no one was hurt. The Lord was definitely watching over me this year.

-Competed in a national songwriting contest.I didn't win or place or anything, but submitting my music was a huge step for me and I was able to get some feedback on my music and tips on how I can be a better songwriter.

-Went snowboarding for the first time!I went with my friends Rachel and Hannah and with my brothers Isaac, Daniel, and Jacob. We all stayed at the beginner level hill for the most part, but then me and Jake decided we needed a hill that was a little more advanced. Isaac and Daniel had already gone to one of the hills that was a level up, and Jake led me to the one that he convinced me that our older brothers had gone to. Well, he was very wrong, but we found out too late... We got on the lift and got concerned as it went higher, and higher, and higher. Every time we got to the top of a snowy mountain, there was another snowy mountain. Finally, we got off at the halfway mark. The hill was extremely steep and we both ended up accidently rolling down the hill most of the way instead of actually snowboarding. And I'm telling you, rolling down a steep, snowy hill with a 4-foot board strapped to your feet is NOT fun. Let's just say we were both super sore the next day and I didn't let Jacob forget that one for a while. XD

-Flew out to Alaska! My friend Rachel occasionally works in Alaska from summer to mid-fall, and her older brother Josiah currently lives there, so I joined two of their siblings, Benjamin and Hannah, along with another friend named Chris to go and visit them. We had a blast! We did lots of fourwheeling, watched a ginormous junkyard that had caught on fire, went sight-seeing, flew a private plane and landed it on a desolate beach out in the middle of nowhere, made lots of tacos, and played volleyball with a plastic water carton in Josiah's kitchen. It was a blast!

-Bought my first car.I bought a little 2006 Ford Escape from my parents this December. ;) She runs nicely and hasn't had any problems since my parents bought it in January of 2019.

Okay! Now for my goals for 2020. I plan to...

Memorize all of Psalm 119.Psalm 119 is super interesting to me not only because it's the longest chapter in the Bible or because it's divided into 8-verse sections titled after the Hebrew alphabet, but because of its focus on the law, at least in the earlier sections of it. The writer constantly speaks of the greatness of the law and his love for it. And I understood that the law was good, but I used to wonder why he had such a passionate love for it. After all, the law is what condemned us to die, right? But then it clicked - God's law is beautiful because it directly reflects His attributes. We see God's holiness, justice, goodness, and love in his law. The law is based on the attributes of God, and that is why it is so beautiful.

Focus more on my passion for music.I want to get back into writing songs regularly and practicing singing and possibly do some recording this year, we'll see. I'm also considering going to a 2-week music school in Tennessee and another educational music competition thingy in Texas. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it work, but we'll see. :)

Get more healthy.I've been dealing with some minor health complications, plus dealing with my leg injury, and I want to get myself as healthy as I can and consistently think about what I'm putting into my body and what I'm doing with it. And I also want to get my leg as good as it can be, whether that means completely healed or with as little side effects from the accident as possible.

Save money.I tend to spend tiny amounts of money very often, so I want to cut back on spending money on random little things I don't need all year long, and I want to stop buying lunch on days I work because while it's convenient, the costs add up in addition to it not being very healthy. I want to save that money for more meaningful things, like flying out to see out of state friends and family or increasing my knowledge or donating to something worthwhile.

And finally, a couple things that will have happened by the end of 2020...

I will have worked at the Freedom Foundation for a full year!!! I can't believe I've been a paralegal for a full year! It's been an amazing journey. God is good!

I will be 20!!! I can't believe it! I've lived 2 full decades and I'm leaving my teenage years behind me!

I will have voted in a presidential election for the first timealong with several other siblings who will be voting for the first time.

Well, that's my 2019-2020 review! I'm tired... I better head to bed. G'night!

Now let's hear from you!

Are you excited for the new decade? What are some of your goals? Your favorite memories from last year? Things that will happen in your life next year?
