I Know Who Holds the Future

by Grace 30. May 2018 23:18

I Know Who Holds the Future

I can't tell you what tomorrow holds
Whether joy or pain for you
I can't tell you what it holds for me
What I will say and do
I can't tell you what may happen here
Or in other distant lands
I don't know what the future holds
But I know Who holds it in His hands

I can't tell you who your friends will be
Whether they'll be strong and true
I don't know the people you will see
Or what they will think of you
I don't know who I'll meet on my way
Or with whom I then will stand
I don't know what the future holds
But I know Who holds it in His hands

I don't know if I will live a life
Filled with pain and agony
Or if I will have a journey home
Filled with joy and luxury
I don't know what lies before me
I don't know what God has planned
I don't know what the future holds
But I know Who holds it in His hands

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy the song? Are you looking forwards to the upcoming Q&A video?

Sparkle In the Rain

by Grace 27. May 2018 22:17

Hey Everyone!

Here's a song I wrote recently. No matter what we may face, there's always something to be joyful about in each circumstance. Don't miss the sparkle in the rain!

Sparkle In the Rain

Chorus: In every drop of rain there is a sparkle,

In every bout of darkness there's a star

In every barren desert there is life

For every night a daytime isn't far

For every single trial there's a blessing

When all seems lost hope still remains

For every hard today there's a tomorrow;

Lord help me see the sparkle in the rain

Verse 1: Everybody in this life

Faces his or her own trials

And oftentimes if feels so hard

To meet our troubles with a smile

But our Protector's always with us

Helping us to run this race;

So remember this, oh child of God

In everything you face...

Chorus: In every drop of rain there is a sparkle,

In every bout of darkness there's a star

In every barren desert there is life

For every night a daytime isn't far

For every single trial there's a blessing

When all seems lost hope still remains

For every hard today there's a tomorrow;

Lord help me see the sparkle in the rain

Verse 2: So when a loved one slips away

Think of the new life they have

Confrontation from the darkness

Show what you really believe

Fright'ning circumstances show us

That our faith can conquer fear

When you're weary and you can't go on

Rest through Christ is near!

Chorus: In every drop of rain there is a sparkle,

In every bout of darkness there's a star

In every barren desert there is life

For every night a daytime isn't far

For every single trial there's a blessing

When all seems lost hope still remains

For every hard today there's a tomorrow;

Lord help me see the sparkle in the rain

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy the song? What's the sparkle in the downpour you're in? Does anyone else here struggle constantly with accidentally spelling "sparkle" as "sparkly"???

Chain Poem!

by Grace 23. May 2018 17:52

Hey Everyone!

I thought I'd try something, see how it went...

I'll start with a little rhyme, and then the next person can add another small part to the poem, and another person can add another part! I've seen people do this with stories, but I wondered if I could do it with a poem. We'll see if it works out.

This is for the 'non-poets' as well as those who do write! And use your imagination -- It can be silly or serious! Just have fun with it. ;)

Out among the daisies,

Dancing in the sun;

Pretty little thing,

Unseen by all but one...

Now it's YOUR turn!!!

P.S. Cut off date for questions for the Video Q+A is May 25th. ;)

What Am I?

by Grace 9. May 2018 19:52

What am I?

What am I? Who am I?
Hear the desperate, honest cry;
Answer the question? Shall I try?
To a question of my own reply?

Who am I? One in a million
Living in vanity under the sun(1)
Undistinguished, here barely at all
And none here my name again will recall

What am I? Tissues, organs,
Bones formed in the shape of Man
Arms and legs, neck and spine
Body parts that I call mine

What am I? An atom mass
Inhales gas, exhales gas(2)
A million particles all in one
Decingrates when life is done.

What am I? Depraved, disgraced
A past of sin I can't erase
Made of dust, returned to dust(3)
A vile creature worthy of disgust

Who am I? A wretch now called
To be redeemed from effects of the fall
Elected to be saved through Christ
According to His sacrifice

What am I? A human soul;
Washed in blood and now made whole.
Nothing good on my own,
Full of worth through Christ Alone.

What am I? A work not yet done
Still being conformed to the likeness of the Son
Having, through faith, been justified(4)
In the process of being sanctified.

Who am I? One of few
Saved by grace, made new;
Promised glory when I fly
To a land where I'll never die.

(1) Eccl. 1:14
(2) Oxygen and carbon dioxide
(3) Genesis 3:19
(4) Romans 5:1

1) If you have not asked questions in my current Q&A, you can do so HERE!

2) I have exams tomorrow... Prayer is appreciated! My grades have been good so far... We'll see what happens. ;)

3) Yes, I know I posted earlier today. But I wrote this and wanted to show it to all of you. XD

Late Night Inspiration!!!

by Grace 7. May 2018 00:57

Hey y'all! Let me know what you think of this:

Chorus: He forgives, He understands

Just keep clinging to His hand

He can see your weary heart

And when things seem to fall apart

And when you fail and make a mess

There's no need to stress

Just hold to His hand; He understands

Verse 1: I've made mistakes that I can't fix

And I am bearing a load of stress

I stay up too late, get up too early;

And my life just seems a mess

Sometimes I feel like I'm a failure

I need relief; pure release

But when I turn to my dear Savior

I suddenly am filled with peace.

Verse 2: Perhaps you're struggling to stay afloat

Lost in tunnels of work you've built

A million things you cannot do

Plague your mind with endless guilt

You've lost you're strength; you're tired out

You don't think that you can go on

Fly to the Father's waiting arms

He'll give you hope and a new song

By the way, what do you think I should name this song? I was going to call it "He Understands" but I already wrote a song called that (read it here).

Okay, it's late here... I'm headed to bed! ;) Sorry this post was kind of choppy...

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this song? Any suggestions for the title? Do you ever get late-night inspiration?

Lord I'll Be what You Want Me to Be

by Grace 7. April 2018 19:55

Hey everyone!

Here's a song that I've written a while ago, but it means a lot to me still. It's one of my favorites that I've written. Some of you that know me might have heard me mention it before -- I am currently working on an arrangement of it with piano, cello, and violin.

Let me know what you think!

Lord, I'll be what You Want Me to be

Chorus:

Lord I'll be what you want me to be tho' the way seems foggy and unclear

Lord I'll do what you want me to do I will cling to You and never fear

For you're holding my hand

Lord I'll be what you want me to be

Verse 1:

I'm tired of fearing, and not believing in Your Sovereignty and grace

I'm growing weary of not trusting You to carry me through everything I face

I'll not be standing idle longer while I hear you calling after me

I'll follow You,

Lord I'll be what You want me to be

Verse 2:

I'll take a breath, and hold Your hand while You lead me down this path I do not know

I will follow Your direction even when Your plan to me you do not show

I am trusting in your promise that You'll always do what You know's best for me

I'll cling to You,

Lord I'll be what You want me to be.

To be honest, I made that second verse just now... I started putting it up here and I thought, "This needs a second verse!" And that was easy for me to do because I've been learning to release my desires to God and be what He wants me to be.

But that's a story for some other time. ;)

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the song? Do you have any ideas of how I can significantly shorten the title??? That's one thing I have trouble with... Titling songs. My titles are always WAY too long. Y'all have probably noticed that though.

Random Tidbits/Poem

by Grace 3. April 2018 16:54

Hey everyone!

I haven't been on here very much have I? I thought I'd drop by and say hello really fast. ;)

A few things:

1. Due to how busy I've been, I will not be posting from either series tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be posting the Family Focus series next week. Some of you may have noticed that I actually posted the first post last week, but because of a few issues I took it down. ;)

2. It's my Mom's birthday tomorrow! Happy Birthday Mom! Love you! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your year while dealing with me. ;D

3. The GIVEAWAY ends the day after tomorrow! If you commented but your comment hasn't shown up yet, if you haven't gotten all of your possible entries, or if you just haven't entered yet, NOW is the time to do that!

4. I got a shot today. I injured my hand a while back and we haven't been able to find out what the matter was. I went to a local doctor, but she didn't know what was wrong, so she sent me to someone else who looked at it today. He seemed very knowledgeable. It was a huge answer to prayer! However, my hand is kinda puffy and numb so I'm avoiding the use of a certain finger... If you ever have your finger numbed, try typing with it and you'll see what I mean!

5. Y'all should listen to this song. ;) My Rock

Like I said before, I'm extremely busy. I have a wedding coming up that I'm going to be a bridesmaid for. I have several assignment deadlines coming up. I have friends going out of state this month and had one leave last month. I just had a doctor's appointment and I have a followup scheduled. It's stressful, and I'm always fearful that I won't be ready for my next quarter finals. Yep, still afraid of quarter finals. I've done just fine on my other finals - much better than I could have hoped for. But I'm still afraid.

It's funny how the devil can make you fear for things that God has helped you conquer over and over and over again. For some reason, the situation is always "different"... Well, it's usually actually mostly the same as last time. It's just a lie that the devil likes to use.

But it's convicting to read the words "Oh you of little faith!" and "casting all your cares on Him". Instead of focusing on the lies Satan uses, I need to focus on the truths God gives. We've been through this before. God's proven Himself faithful. I have no valid reason to fear or worry. ;)

Well, that's me and my life for now. I had better run now!

Why does the day have to be so long
And why does it feel so short?
Why does getting up earlier
Feel like a last resort?
How does my list of things to get done
Grow so big, so fast
And why does the morn seem slow, so slow -
When I start work, I think 'at last'.
Why do I feel irate and want
To get tasks done and over with quickly
But the thought of an upcoming deadline
Makes me cringe and feel queasy?
Why do I feel afraid at all?
I've been through this before.
God's given me all the strength I need
That and plenty more.
Help me Lord to not complain--
Not to fear or stress.
I have You to see me through
That should fill me with happiness.
Things will not be easy
You never said they'd be.
But that's okay, 'cause You're here to stay.
You'll always be here with me.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you listen to the song? What's been going on in your life? What have you been up to? Have you entered the giveaway yet? Did you like my title-less poem?

He Set Me Free

by Grace 19. March 2018 18:38

Hey Everyone!

Here's another song I wrote. Let me know what you all think!

He Set Me Free

Verse 1: Once upon a time I was wandering in sin

Tried to save myself but didn't know where to begin

But I found Jesus - well, rather He found me

He healed my sick soul and He set me free!

Verse 2: I look around me and see other faces

Searching for saviour in all of the wrong places

Come to the Master; let Him bear the load

And He'll give you strength to walk down this road!

Chorus: He set me free, He set me free

Once I was blind; I now can see

I'll hold the Saviour's hand no matter how hard it may be

Because He saved my soul and He set me free!

There y'all go! Let me know what you think once you've read it.

Hopefully me and Daniel can get that giveaway together this week, but we'll see. ;)

If you haven't checked out the new "Recommendations/Favorites" page on the sidebar yet, be sure to do so and let me know what you think!

Looking forwards to (hopefully!) starting the "Family Life" series this Wednesday!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy the song? Did you check out my recommendations page on the sidebar? Have you read/seen/heard of anything from there yet? Did you look up/watch anything from it, and if so, what? And did you enjoy it? Are you looking forwards to the giveaway or have you given up on it because I've mentioned it so many times??? ;)

SOFP ENTRY!!!!!!

by Grace 16. March 2018 15:26

Hello Everyone!

As you all can probably tell already by my excessive exclamation points in the title, I'm super excited about this entry. I hacked into my sister's files *grins evilly* and stole a poem out.

Okay, I got permission. ;)

Anywho, I got it. Now, if there was ANYONE I ever envied for their poetry-writing skills, it's my little sister. She can add meaning and depth to her writing like no one else can. Fortunately she doesn't write a lot of poetry or else I'd go out of business... Totally kidding!

Alright. Here it is!

Looking Through My Crystal Window

Looking through my crystal window

My forlorn eyes meet a fragile rose;

A vibrant red, resolutely rising,

With face turned up, this flower grows.

How do you climb, so all alone?

How did you weather the Winter’s frost?

Roots of steel, a determined stem

You reach for the sky, at any cost.

Looking into your house so bright

I could’ve dreamt of what I don’t own.

Whispers of warmth welcomed vain wishes

For in the cold months I’ve grown alone.

But I know that Winter passes

And envious thoughts don’t help a thing.

My name is Hope; a budding flower

Who always believes there is a Spring.

Beautiful, isn't it? All of the alliteration sends shivers down my spine. ;)

Before y'all leave, check out my recommendations page on the sidebar!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy Abigail's poem? Be sure to let her know in the comments! Would YOU be interested in doing SOFP? Did you check out my recommendations page on the sidebar?

A Giveaway on the Blog Noveltea!||Poetry from my Childhood

by Grace 12. March 2018 12:10

Hey all!

I entered a pretty neat giveaway this week hosted by Lydia Howe and, although I've shared it with quite a few people, it totally spaced my mind to post the link here. So here it is!

Giveaway - Noveltea

Keep an eye out for my giveaway of More Than Conquerors! I'll post it as soon as Daniel has a free moment to help me out. ;)

And while I'm here... I couldn't help but share some poems I found that I wrote when I first started out (I was probably about 10-12!) I thought they were pretty cute! Haha! Tell me what you think of my ancient poetry. ;)

I Will Fly to Heaven

Birds fly high,

I just sigh;

I want to fly too!

When I die,

I will fly,

I will fly to Heaven.

I am glad,

I’ve got a Dad,

And a Mother, to;

And when they die,

They will fly,

They will fly to heaven.

Time does extend

To the end

Soon this world will fall;

But life’s sweet song

To me belongs,

Because I’ll fly to heaven.

That one actually had a tune to it. Wasn't I sooo sweet? Haha!

Prayer is the Sweetest Thing

Prayer is the sweetest thing;

Prayer, yes to God we bring

Lots of Hymns and songs we sing,

But prayer is the sweetest thing.

Prayer is the sweetest thing;

We pray to our heavenly king:

We love to hear the church bells ring,

But prayer is still the sweetest thing.

Prayer is the sweetest thing;

Though we love the church bells ring

Though lots of Hymns and songs we sing;

Prayer is the sweetest thing.

I was probably about 11 for that one.

There Will be a Day

There will be a day

With no more school;

Playing all day

Will be the rule.

I’ll graduate soon

From seventh Grade

I’ll do a test sun to moon,

See the score I made.

I’ll pass the test!

Then I’ll go to bed

I won’t rest

With such joy in my head!

I’ll go and marry!

And have children!

I won’t tarry!

I’ll maybe have ten!

We’ll see when I get there.

I wrote this when I was twelve. I thought it was hilarious! If only I knew back then all the school that I'm doing now... Haha!!

Anyways, thought you all would enjoy that. ;)

Keep looking out for the giveaway and the upcoming series THIS WEEK!!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enter Lydia's giveaway? Did you like my 'ancient' poetry? Are you all tired of me saying 'look forward to the giveaway' and 'look forward to the two series' although I haven't posted any of them yet? I know, I sound like a broken record. Y'all are probably thinking 'This better be good with how long we've waited!' :/ But they're BOTH COMING!

Straight From My Heart

by Grace 9. March 2018 13:34

Hey Everyone!

Sorry I wasn't able to post the first part to either of our upcoming series last Wednesday! I was really busy that day. Planning on next week!

I wrote this last mind to clear my thoughts... It kinda shows how my mind wanders when I think or pray... Haha! It doesn't really have a name right now!

Straight From My Heart

Lord, help me to truly be sorry

For every wrong thing I do

Teach me to focus less on me

And much, much more on You.

Help me to trust in your strenghth

And never in my own

And always remain near me

I couldn't survive alone

I know I'm asking more of You

Than I could ever give

And I also know I deserve to die

But You died that I might live

I know that it's a lot to ask

I know I (almost) shouldn't

But You've told me in Your Word to ask

And that if I did, You'd do it

I guess I might as well say thanks

To You in advance

But then again, it's rather late

Since You've authored every circumstance

And every little happening

Of my life that I've been through

You've done all this for me and more

You've cleansed me, made me new

So I guess I'm gonna say this now

I'm glad you know it's true

From the very bottom of my heart

I'd like to say THANK YOU!! :)

This is really my prayer from last night, wholly unedited (I even had the smiley face in there!). For that reason I almost didn't share it - it feels kind of personal... But don't we all have prayers like this sometimes? Most of us if not all of us occasionally have those times when our minds are racing with so many things and we have trouble getting it out. For me, in those circumstances, sometimes it's just easier to write it out in poem form. So it really isn't too personal because most believers have similar thoughts sometimes. Right? Do you all kind of get what I'm saying?

Anyways, better run. Giveaway coming up SOON! Stay tuned!

 Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the poem? Did you all kind of get what I was saying in about why my poem wasn't too personal to share with you all? Are you all EXCITED for the GIVEAWAY!?!?

Sing Praises

by Grace 5. March 2018 21:02

Hello Everyone!

I have a new song here for y'all. Let me know what you think!

Sing Praises to the Creator

Verse 1: As I gaze at the stars on a calm chilly night
My heart gives a leap at the glorious sight
My soul will rejoice in the nature's fresh air
As I sing praises to the Creator

Verse 2: As I wander about in the glistening snow
And gaze down at frozen rivers below
I'll thank God that He this world would share
And I'll sing praises to the Creator

Verse 3: As I dance all around in the meadow fair
With the flowers around and warmth in the air
I will thank the Lord for His wonderous care
And sing praises to the Creator

Refrain: For the Lord is good in all He does
And all that He's made for us
My life would be colorless and bland
If it wasn't for the gifts from the fathers hand
So I'll keep singing on forevermore
I will sing  praises to the Creator

Be on the lookout for the intro for our series coming this Wednesday or next, and also be on the lookout for... An upcoming GIVEAWAY for my brother Daniel's book, More Than Conquerors!!!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the song? Which series are you most looking forward to? Are you all excited for the giveaway?

Another SOFP Entry!

by Grace 23. February 2018 12:13

Hey Everyone!

Sorry for my long absence! Due to an unexpectedly severe case of the stomach flu, I've still been running behind in life. Hopefully I'll be posting more in the near future! I actually have some questions for you all concerning that, but more on that in a later post... ;)

Today I'm actually here for another SOFP entry! (Shout Out to Fellow Poets) These are all by J.S. Clingman (thanks for sharing!) I hope you all will take the time to read them and let him know what you think!

The Four Seasons
A daffodil waved in the breeze that had rushed down the mountainside;
The melted snow hurried down in torrents to where the lakes reside.
Spring had arrived, producing mystic buds of flower and leaf
And wherever it touched in plant or earth, God's nature made a leap.

A primrose danced along the banks of the river's rushing song
The river's banks were lined with gardens of flowery throng.
Summer had finally come – the noontime of the year,
And strewn the gold of June quite merrily – dandelions, far and near.

A golden-colored maple leaf trembled in a sudden windy gust,
As a flock of geese flew northward over the colorful painted forest and occasional hunter's huts.
Autumn had succeeded Summer, in its array of swirling leaves.
Summoning the North Wind southward, in cold and terrible heaves.

A holly plant peeked through the beautiful white snow;
The trees around were barren, but arrayed in mistletoe.
It was in these dark days of Winter that God descended on Christmas night.
And this, through all the dreary days, provides the world a hopeful light.

The Acorn Catastrophe

There was once an acorn in a tree...

One Day it fell down, and hit a bee

The Bee fell down and stung a pig,

The pig got up and danced a jig.

The pig soon struck a big, fat cow

Who struck the bride who was saying the vow

The bride fell into the wedding cake,

Which flew into the man with the garden rake.

The rake came down and hit the bridegroom's hat,

While the bridegroom fell down and squashed a cat.

The cat then screamed to the mountains high,

Which made an avalanche of snow go by.

And what was the reason for this catastrophe?

A tiny acorn that fell from a tree.

The End.

Dawn on The Highlands

(This one was written from a Scottish Highlander's perspective)

The morning dawned bright and clear

In the early morning of the year -

The spring sunrise set the dew on the moors ablaze with twinkling light

As the Sun's rays pierced through the clouds, chasing away the dark night.

Now the loveliness of the Highlands – the rolling hills, the glens – were now in their mystic beauty revealed.

The once-dark, lifeless waters of the brooks and rivers, now sprang, joyously, healed.

From the green, rugged mountains, I looked down from above

At this, my highland-home, Scotland – which I will forever love.

A Poem For A New Year

January is the morn

Of a year that's newly born.

February winds freeze the lakes

Then people come out to ice-skate.

March is when the crocus peeps

Through the snow, in icy heaps.

April's when the birds all sing

Announcing the return of Spring.

May brings flowers reaching high

Up, into the clear blue sky.

June brings occasional rain

And Spring's cool weather starts to wane.

July makes the summer heat

Brown the cornstalks and the wheat.

August is when the crops and grain

Are harvested at the farmers' yearly gain.

September winds blow the grass

And the leaves into a mass.

October brings the light

Of a jack-o-lantern through the night.

November's blast blows the last leaf down;

The year goes on, winter-bound.

December ends the memorable year

With a bit of Christmas cheer.

There y'all have it! Hope you enjoyed! I'll try to get the rest of those Q+A answers out to you next week. ;)

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy J.S. Clingman's entries? Do you have a favorite out of the four? Would YOU be interested in doing SOFP?

Exams Tomorrow

by Grace 12. February 2018 21:28

Hey everyone!

Pray for me! Exam day #1 is tomorrow! (By the way, that's a NUMBER sign - not a hashtag! Haha!)

Our Vocation

Vocation is our calling giv’n

From our Creator’s hand;

A duty directed to us

To fulfil the Father’s plan.

Uncertain, mysterious;

Vocation –a vital venture—

A call that’s undeniable

And warrants a prompt answer

Vocation serves our Creator

It is ordained by the Holy One

It stems from the Great Calling

God’s giv’n to everyone

An offer, yet demand;

A gift, yet an order—

We dare not to ignore it,

Though we be a bless’d receiver.

Responding to our calling

With faith unhesitating,

Is commanded from our Creator

For our purposes’ fulfilling.

Merry Christmas! // God Will Give Strength

by Grace 26. December 2017 18:39

Merry Christmas Everyone!

A day late...

I hope you all had a blessed day!

And while I'm here... (:

God Will Give Strength

Chorus 1: God will give me the strength to go on

God will give me the strength to go on

When it seems there is no way

Night will turn to day

God will give me the strength to go on

Verse 1: I'm struggling to answer Gods call

The load is so heavy and I stagger 'neath it all

My feet and heart are weary

And my spirit is so low

But God is here with me and I know

That (Chorus 1)

Verse 2: Perhaps you're struggling like I've been

You have lost all hope that you could possibly win

Keep your head up weary pilgrim

Wear a smile and sing a song

You will find the courage before long

For...

Chorus 2: God will give you the strength to go on

God will give you the strength to go on

When it seems there is no way

Night will turn to day

God will give you the strength to go on

Now let's hear from you!

How was your Christmas? What were your highlights of the day? Did you like the song?

Looking Higher, Reaching Farther

by Grace 19. December 2017 10:26

Hello everyone!

You don't mind if I post songs that have nothing to do with Christmas during the Christmas season, do you?

If you answered no to that question, then good. If you answered that you do mind, don't look at this post until Christmas is past and you'll never know I posted it during the Christmas season unless you read this part of the post or look at the date on the top.

Here's a song I wrote recently (oh, by the way, if you couldn't tell already, it's not a Christmas song). I haven't completely decided what order I want the verses to be in, but I'm thinking this is probably how I'll keep it. Hope you enjoy!

Looking Higher, Reaching Farther

Chorus: I'm looking higher, I'm reaching farther,

I want what's better, I want what's best

And so I'll stand uncompromising

Whenever I'm put to the test

So I'll keep walking on the narrow and straight

I'll be watching, and I will wait

I'm looking higher, I'm reaching farther

Than this world could ever dream

Verse 1: I'm not defined by what others say

Or by the standards of the day

I am defined by my faith in Jesus

And what he's done for all of us

Verse 2: I will not settle for the first man

Who says he loves me and asks for my hand

I'm waiting for the one God has chosen

I'm waiting for a godly man

Verse 3: When I am ever tempted to fear

I will remember that the Lord is near

I'll trust in Him; I'll fear no evil

For everything's in God's control

Verse 4: I won't judge my worth by how I feel

'Cause what I feel often isn't real

I get my worth in Christ alone

The greatest status ever known

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the song? What did you think about the order of the verses? Did you have a favorite verse? Were you irritated that I posted something that wasn't Christmas-related during the Christmas season? If so, I don't really want to know...

The Child and the Cucumber

by Grace 11. November 2017 15:15

Hey all!

I decided that after the serious poem of a few days ago, I might as well share something a little more light-hearted. This is a poem I wrote last school year for English 2. I don't remember exactly what the assignment was... something about two things, a person and an object that needed to be personified, looking through a window and their thoughts concerning each other. I thought I had a nice touch of irony to it - the lack of the meeting of minds. (By the way, for those of you who didn't know, 'meeting of the minds' is a law term from contracts. I couldn't help it. I'm enjoying my paralegal terminology. ;) I also had to add alliteration and a simile. I think there might have been something else I had to put in there but I don't remember. For all of you who know what those are (hopefully quite a few of you know what a simile is!) see if you can find them and point them out! For those of you who don't know, let me know and I'll give an explanation.

 The Child and the Cucumber

My tongue begins to water as I see you where you lie;

The most crispy, crunchy cucumber that has ever met my eye!

Oh, what I would give for you, I crave your crispy texture!

But into your dominion in the neighbor’s yard I dare not venture!

There must be something I can do to get you here, my treat!

I think that I might go insane if you I cannot eat!

Oh what am I to do while I am here and you are there???

I guess I can ask the neighbors and see if they will share.

Oh child, I sit here miserably shriveling sadly in the sun!

Sitting in the dirt over here is anything but fun!

I long to live in luxury on top of your kitchen counter!

Bring me in and wash me clean with refreshing soap and water!

I want to be displayed like a trophy, my lovely green skin to show.

That’s what you could do with me. I am beautiful, you know.

I know you want me in there, I can see for me you’ve cried.

I don’t know what you want with me, but please bring me inside!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy the poem? Do you know what a simile or alliteration is? Did you notice any other literary devices in the poem? Do you like cucumbers? ;) Who do you feel more sorry for - the child or the cucumber? If you were the child, what would you do??? Let me know in the comments! I love hearing from you all!

Our Lives are Passing Times

by Grace 7. November 2017 10:42

Hey everyone! Today I finally have some of my own inspiration to share with you!

Let me know what you think!

Our Lives are Passing Times

The years are flying quickly by,

And time is flying fast;

And someday that is coming soon,

Our lives here will be past.

What have we done with what we have

To make our lives worthwhile?

Have we reached out to troubled souls?

Or giv'n the world a smile?

God's given so abundantly,

More than we'll ever know;

The least that we can do for Him

Is His great love to show.

Our lives are spent most selfishly-

In gaining for our pleasure,

And though things we get or want aren't 'bad',

It's all just earthly treasure.

And while we're  spending all our time

Enjoying what we've got,

We forget the ones who really

Haven't got an awful lot.

God's given so abundantly!

The least that we can do

Is to reach out with what we've got

to help a soul or two.

It isn't truly thankfulness

To hide with all our stuff,

And then ignore the ones

Who haven't near enough.

We would not have anything

If it weren't bestowed by God,

So we should help the weary souls

Who harder paths now trod.

You can't bring earthly things to heav'n,

And soon I'm sure you'll find,

It matters not what we'll bring with us

But what we'll leave behind.

And hey, just for the fun of it, if you can tell what rhyme scheme I used, comment below and let me know! Perhaps I'll do a post on rhyme scheme soon.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the poem? Any suggestions on how to make it better???

Patience my Child

by Grace 7. August 2017 21:45

Hey all! I'm back! Fire off the cannons!!!

Here's a song that I wrote recently. This is something God's been telling me a lot recently! If I have my way, this will eventually make it onto our CD, but my way doesn't always happen in circumstances like these... Oh well. We'll see what happens. At any rate, here it is and let me know what you think!

Patience My Child

CHORUS: Patience, patience my child

Patience, patience my child

I have the answer

And remember

That I'll not forget your name,

Patience, patience my child

VERSE 1: I was wrestling through a struggle

So I lifted it in prayer

And I waited for a while

But my prayer for this trial

Didn't seem to have an answer

I great despair I asked Him

If He had heard my cry

He smiled at me, and this was His reply

(Chorus)

VERSE 2: When you're faced with life's decisions

And you ask God what to do

But it seems the Lord above

Who's always looking down in love

Wasn't looking down at you!

Stop fretting for a moment

Know that He will make a way

If you listen close, you will hear Him say

(Chorus)

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this poem? Is God currently teaching you this lesson too?

When Life is...

by Grace 26. July 2017 18:24

Hey all! Sorry I've been gone so long. Life got a hold and wouldn't let go! I wrote this today on the whim. Let me know what you think!

When Life Is...

When life is a smog that I can't see through,
Help me to lean more heavily on you
When life is misty with tears from a loss
Help me to trust you, not count you as the cause
When life is hot and I'm full of pride
Help me to step down and let you decide
When life is cold with rigid fear
Help me remember you're always near

Help me remember you're the Author of Life
And that you're in control through joy and strife.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this poem? Are you in any of these areas of life right now? Have any title suggestions? My title wasn't to good... Do you think I portrayed my theme of "Pointing Life back to God" well? Did you miss my presence in the blogosphere?Wink

P.S. Keep a lookout for the new page on the sidebar that's coming soon!! Smile

The Blessed, Holy Trinity!

by Grace 7. July 2017 23:45

Hey everyone! It feels to me that it's been a while since I've posted anything! I guess it probably hasn't been too long though. ;)

The Trinity is a very beautiful thing to me. We've been learning a lot about this recently in church, and that's what inspired me to write this poem. I hadn't realized how amazing and inspiring the Trinity was until about a month ago. I mean, of course, I've always known God is three in one and that is the Trinity and that God is absolutely pure and holy, but I didn't know the depth of His beauty was until I had heard more on the Trinity.

Without further ado, here's the poem!

The Blessed, Holy Trinity

The sacred, divine Trinity

A holy doctrine unto me

Three in one

One in three

The Blessed, Holy Trinity.

This awe-inspiring Trinity

Together saves and blesses me

The Father, Son

And Spirit be

The Blessed, Holy Trinity.

The sacred, lovely Trinity;

It reaches down to you and me.

We don’t deserve

This grace of thee

The Blessed, Holy Trinity.

The Son has died for you and me

The Father blesses me and thee

The Holy Spirit

Dwells in me

The Blessed, Holy Trinity.

Because God is the three in one

Of disagreements, there are none.

The harmony!

The Unity!

The Blessed, Holy Trinity!

This Unity, this Trinity

Is very beautiful to me

I overflow

With praise of thee

The Blessed, Holy Trinity!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this poem? Have you ever realized how amazing the Trinity is?

Salt and Light

by Grace 24. June 2017 17:01
Hey everyone! Here's another poem I wrote a little while back. It was derived from one of my favorite passages in the Bible. Let me know what you think!

Salt and Light (Matt. 13-16)
You are salt upon the earth.
If you’ve no flavor, what’s your worth?
All that’s left for you my friend
Is to be trodden underfoot by men.

You’re a lamp for God; a light
That should be always gleaming bright.
If you have let your light grow dim
You stunt your usefulness to Him.

So keep your salty flavor in,
Guard your flame from liquid sin,
Lead the hell-bound souls from strife,
And let your lamp shine eternal life.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this poem? What are some of your favorite passages in the Bible?

SOFP Entry!

by Grace 16. June 2017 22:26

Hey everyone! We've got another SOFP guest post! This is by my dear friend Olivia Bell (thanks Livy!!)! I hope you enjoy this beautiful poem as much as I did!

The Seasons are changing

The Lord has put the earthly seasons into motion

They come and go with or without emotion

It starts with the coming of winter, the season of snow and ice

When the powder falls it looks very nice

All the excited children run outdoors to play

In the sparkling white of the blustery day

Skiing and snowboarding at daring high speeds

Having enough thrills and excitement to satisfy their needs

The glistening white snow stays only for a short while

Leaving behind nothing but a dirty, brown pile

Everyone is ready for spring to have sprung at last

Planting their gardens when the threat of frost has passed

Colorful flowers sprouting up and blooming

Harvesting time is soon to be looming

Summer has now arrived, swelteringly hot

All the children go swimming, as they have been taught

At the end of the hot day people enjoy cold ice cream

Everyone is so happy this could be a dream

Then all of the trees turn to bright fall colors

Harvesting time comes and everyone helps their mothers

With the canning and preserving of their God-given food

When all the sudden winter has once again ensued

The Seasons keep right on going by fast

None of them ever really seem to last

That’s the way it certainly will be

Forever into eternity

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy Olivia's entry? Would YOU be interested in doing SOFP?

He Understands

by Grace 13. June 2017 12:19

Hey everyone! Here's a song that I just recently finished writing. Let me know what you think! And, please, if you're willing, take a close look at it. Be critical. See if there's anything I should change. Does it stay on topic? Is it clear? Does it make sense? Does it flow? Especially if you've had any experience in analyzing literature. I want to make this as good as possible. Don't be afraid to offend me if you see things that need major changes. If you don't feel that whatever you have to say should go into a public comment, you can go to 'Contact' and get a hold of me through there.

Thanks!

He Understands

Verse 1: Things in this world

Do not always go right

Sometimes it seems

There’s no reason to fight

But cling to the Lord

Trust that He has a plan

Rely on His wisdom

And hold fast to His hand

Chorus: For God understands more than anyone can

And everything flows under His pure command

In your deepest despair He will always be there

Just trust that it’s in His plan

And that He understands

Verse 2: Our heavenly Father

Wants what’s best for us

He counts it as joy

His children to bless

But trials are part of

Our spiritual growth

The good times and bad times

Our Lord planned them both

 It’s still gonna hurt

And you’re still gonna cry

You’re still gonna wonder

And you’re gonna ask why

But I know He’ll give grace

Right through to the end

And will remain

Your truest friend

Bridge: When you walk through the Valley

Of the Shadow of death

When you face storms of life

Or the pangs of regret

When you're weary of life

And you can't see God's plan

Just rest in His grace;

For He understands

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this song? Any suggestions for change?

Shout Out to Fellow Poets (SOFP) Entry!

by Grace 10. June 2017 19:50

Hey everyone! Here's the first SOFP submission ever! This poem is by Lizbeth Erazo. (Thanks Lizbeth!) I really enjoyed it, and I hope you do too! Be sure to let her know what you think in the comments!

Old For New

What was torn you mend again
You redesign the tattered thread by thread
You take the broken and destroyed
You rebuild, You make whole

Joy begin to rise
Hope begin to light the dark
Our God exchanges old for new
Dawn has conquered night
Death has lost to life
And now we are exchanging old for new

You turn our flame into a fire
In You we walk in the impossible
We take Your love into the world
We let our light shine, we let it burn

There’s nothing that Your love won’t do
There’s not a mountain faith can’t move
There’s power in the blood
The power of the cross

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy Lizbeth's entry? Would YOU be interested in doing SOFP?

I'm Moving Up to a Mansion Bright/Upcoming post(s)

by Grace 5. June 2017 22:05

Hey everyone! Here's the words to a song that I wrote in 2014. Enjoy!

I'm Moving Up to a Mansion Bright

Verse 1:I'm moving up to

a mansion bright

I'm heading upwards

to love and light

I'm going home to

see my Lord there

A land to dwell in

Without a care

Verse 2:

I'm going to see

those who have gone

Before me when their

race had been won

I'm gonna greet them

on that glad day

And we'll be happy

in every way

Verse 3:

When up to heaven

I finally rise

I will rejoice

Within paradise!

I'm gonna shout of

God's victory

I'll join the song of

Grand Jubilee!

Chorus:

I'm going upwards

to see Christ there

In all His glory

so bright and fair

I'm going upwards

I'm headed homewards

I'm going up to

heaven so fair

Also, I was thinking of maybe doing something special, like interviewing someone, having someone do a guest post (by the way, check out the 'Shout Out to Fellow Poets' on the sidebar!) doing a post-a-day for a week challenge, or having a Q+A where y'all ask questions in the comments and I answer. What do y'all think? If I were to do one of those, which would be most interesting to you?

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the song? Any suggestions as to how it could be better? And what d'y'all think of a special post/post series? What would you suggest? Do any of you have any topic suggestions for future poems?

Troubled Waters

by Grace 30. May 2017 23:38

This is something that I sat down and wrote a few moments ago. I tried to incorporate a strong theme of water into it. I also tried a new little rhyme scheme other than the usual alternating rhyme for lines - ABABB.

Troubled Waters

When storm clouds roll across the sky

When thunder fills the air

Remember, Christ's your shelter

You can take your refuge there

God will always keep you in His care.

When troubles swirl about you

At a speed that feels insane

Remember, Christ is with you

And that He can ease your pain

Dance with joy and laughter in the rain.

Remember that these waters full

Of doubt and pain and fear...

They do not last forever--

For a short time they are here.

And after trials blessings will appear.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the poem? Did I do a good job of incorporating a strong theme of water? Any suggestions as to how I could change it to make it better? Did you enjoy the abnormal rhyme scheme? Do y'all know what a rhyme scheme is??? Let me know your thoughts!
