Song Suggestion: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

by Grace 12. December 2017 15:19

Hey everyone! Let's have a show of hands for how many of you like gooood a'cappella music!!! Oh, wait. Never mind. Guess I can't really see your hands. ;)

Anyhow... Here's the song. This is the best version of this song out there, if you ask me. But so many different southern gospel groups all sing this same song that way, that I could probably put a recording of a different group singing this exact same version (with minor tweaks, of course) every day for the rest of December. But I won't do that. So far, I think this is my favorite recording that I've heard yet. Without further ado, here's Triumphant Quartet singing God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the song? Have you heard this arrangement before?

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
By the way, you're awesome! I don't know of anyone else who would take the time to go back and comment on all the posts they had missed on my blog. Love you lots! It means a lot to me!

Those guys were talented, that is hard to do. There again Grace is posting all male vocals : - )  Are their not any men here that like mixed vocals???

These two  songs linked are very good and I want to explain; the first song His Robes for Mine is from a Baptist Church and we are not even sure if they are reformed as their website is vague. A nice presentation here.

The second group we do know well of however. They are Mormons and they have presented here a very large scale big budget production which sounds great. We do not agree with their beliefs and have great differences in faith namely about Christ. Here they deleted this stanza about Him. By doing so they have removed Jesus from the song that was written to him, because they deny Christ and his deity. Full text below, but this is the part they have removed just have a listen - it part of the song but it has vanished from the Mormon's Version.

"The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures."

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Come on, I've posted mixed vocals!!! The only reason the male quartets stick out is because although I post mixed vocals, I don't post any girls-only groups because I haven't found any I like yet!
I really like that first song you posted - I believe you've shown those to me before. (:
