Song Suggestion: I Know All About Scars

by Grace 18. November 2017 22:17

Hey everyone! I realized that I forgot to post a song suggestion last Thursday! Haha! If I do that again feel free to post an angry comment or send a mad message through my contact page and I'll go ahead and post something! xD

Alrighty, here's an interesting one. Listen to it twice. First, imagine it is Jesus talking to you, and the second time imagine it's a Christian brother talking to you. Then let me know which you think fits best.

Happy hearing! ;)

I Know All About Scars

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the song? For those of you who liked the song from last week, did you notice that this is the same group? Have you heard this song before? Who did you think was the speaker in this song - Christ or a fellow Christian?

Finals Exams/Fear and Anxiety

by Grace 13. November 2017 21:35

Hey everyone!

I'm starting my quarter finals test tomorrow (for those of you who don't know, I'm a student of Oak Brook College of Law (OBCL.edu)). My quarter finals exams will consist of four 2-hour exams, two tomorrow, one on Wednesday, and one on Thursday. And for the record, one of my greatest fears is timed tests.

But I thought I'd just hop up here and let y'all know that even when we're facing our worst fears, we can lean on Jesus and HE can relieve us of our fears.

In reality, having fear is a sign of lack of trust. Let's say you went to the doctors and they said that you had a disease and that they would need to operate on you for you to get better. But you cry, "No way! That's just plain CREEPY! You're not cutting into me! That's terrifying! I don't care if you drug me to sleep first! I'm afraid!" The doctor shakes his head and says, "you don't trust me, do you? Well, if this is the way it's going to be, you're just going to have to deal with this issue that's cutting away at you."

Folks, anxiety and fear cut away at our souls. It's a sign that we're not trusting God enough. And I can attest to that; I'm still scared to death. But when I pray about it, the Great Physician begins His operation I start to feel better. If I don't let go though, the pain of fear drains me so that I'm not as efficient for the purpose God has created me for.

Now, fear is something that takes time to rid yourself of. In fact, we cannot be fully immune to the temptations (yes, temptation -- a lack of trust in God is a SIN) of fearing and not trusting God until we get to heaven and are fully sanctified in His presence. But it's something to work on, and letting go of your fears and leaving all in God's care is glorifying to Him.

So for all of you who are like me, shaking in your shoes and wondering what to do and how to do and where to do and what to do and then realizing your muddled brain is going in circles, cast your cares upon the Lord and put your best effort in for the glory of God. Give Him your all.

Eccl. 9:10

Blessings and Prayers for you all!

Now let's hear from you!

What struggles and challenges have you been facing that cause you to fear? What are some of the Bible verses you refer to when you're fearful, stressed, and anxious? What is your reaction when frightening things come up - praying or panic?

The Child and the Cucumber

by Grace 11. November 2017 15:15

Hey all!

I decided that after the serious poem of a few days ago, I might as well share something a little more light-hearted. This is a poem I wrote last school year for English 2. I don't remember exactly what the assignment was... something about two things, a person and an object that needed to be personified, looking through a window and their thoughts concerning each other. I thought I had a nice touch of irony to it - the lack of the meeting of minds. (By the way, for those of you who didn't know, 'meeting of the minds' is a law term from contracts. I couldn't help it. I'm enjoying my paralegal terminology. ;) I also had to add alliteration and a simile. I think there might have been something else I had to put in there but I don't remember. For all of you who know what those are (hopefully quite a few of you know what a simile is!) see if you can find them and point them out! For those of you who don't know, let me know and I'll give an explanation.

 The Child and the Cucumber

My tongue begins to water as I see you where you lie;

The most crispy, crunchy cucumber that has ever met my eye!

Oh, what I would give for you, I crave your crispy texture!

But into your dominion in the neighbor’s yard I dare not venture!

There must be something I can do to get you here, my treat!

I think that I might go insane if you I cannot eat!

Oh what am I to do while I am here and you are there???

I guess I can ask the neighbors and see if they will share.

Oh child, I sit here miserably shriveling sadly in the sun!

Sitting in the dirt over here is anything but fun!

I long to live in luxury on top of your kitchen counter!

Bring me in and wash me clean with refreshing soap and water!

I want to be displayed like a trophy, my lovely green skin to show.

That’s what you could do with me. I am beautiful, you know.

I know you want me in there, I can see for me you’ve cried.

I don’t know what you want with me, but please bring me inside!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy the poem? Do you know what a simile or alliteration is? Did you notice any other literary devices in the poem? Do you like cucumbers? ;) Who do you feel more sorry for - the child or the cucumber? If you were the child, what would you do??? Let me know in the comments! I love hearing from you all!

By the way, make sure you go to the sidebar and check out my new About page!

Our Lives are Passing Times

by Grace 7. November 2017 10:42

Hey everyone! Today I finally have some of my own inspiration to share with you!

Let me know what you think!

Our Lives are Passing Times

The years are flying quickly by,

And time is flying fast;

And someday that is coming soon,

Our lives here will be past.

What have we done with what we have

To make our lives worthwhile?

Have we reached out to troubled souls?

Or giv'n the world a smile?

God's given so abundantly,

More than we'll ever know;

The least that we can do for Him

Is His great love to show.

Our lives are spent most selfishly-

In gaining for our pleasure,

And though things we get or want aren't 'bad',

It's all just earthly treasure.

And while we're  spending all our time

Enjoying what we've got,

We forget the ones who really

Haven't got an awful lot.

God's given so abundantly!

The least that we can do

Is to reach out with what we've got

to help a soul or two.

It isn't truly thankfulness

To hide with all our stuff,

And then ignore the ones

Who haven't near enough.

We would not have anything

If it weren't bestowed by God,

So we should help the weary souls

Who harder paths now trod.

You can't bring earthly things to heav'n,

And soon I'm sure you'll find,

It matters not what we'll bring with us

But what we'll leave behind.

And hey, just for the fun of it, if you can tell what rhyme scheme I used, comment below and let me know! Perhaps I'll do a post on rhyme scheme soon.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the poem? Any suggestions on how to make it better???

Song Suggestion: I Have Been Blessed

by Grace 2. November 2017 20:45

Hey everyone! Something called law school ate me up... so that's why I've been absent from my blog and why I've been out of touch with many of you. :/ But I've crawled out of my little hole of contract law books to once again post on my poor neglected blog. It's only a song suggestion, yes, but it's a very good one! If you like it, look into the Bontrager Family Singers website and blog. They're one of my favorite artists.

Here it is: I Have Been Blessed

Ah, it feels good to be back. Anyways. Back to the point. I'll try to post a weekly song suggestion so that you all can see if I'm still alive or not. And hopefully I can post some of my own inspiration on here sometime soon. My fingers are itching to write music but my textbooks are keeping me busy... We'll see what happens. (:

Blessings to you all and hope you are all doing well!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the song? What have you been up to? Have you heard of the Bontrager Family Singers before? What are some of you favorite artists?

Patience my Child

by Grace 7. August 2017 21:45

Hey all! I'm back! Fire off the cannons!!!

Here's a song that I wrote recently. This is something God's been telling me a lot recently! If I have my way, this will eventually make it onto our CD, but my way doesn't always happen in circumstances like these... Oh well. We'll see what happens. At any rate, here it is and let me know what you think!

Patience My Child

CHORUS: Patience, patience my child

Patience, patience my child

I have the answer

And remember

That I'll not forget your name,

Patience, patience my child

VERSE 1: I was wrestling through a struggle

So I lifted it in prayer

And I waited for a while

But my prayer for this trial

Didn't seem to have an answer

I great despair I asked Him

If He had heard my cry

He smiled at me, and this was His reply

(Chorus)

VERSE 2: When you're faced with life's decisions

And you ask God what to do

But it seems the Lord above

Who's always looking down in love

Wasn't looking down at you!

Stop fretting for a moment

Know that He will make a way

If you listen close, you will hear Him say

(Chorus)

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this poem? Is God currently teaching you this lesson too?

When Life is...

by Grace 26. July 2017 18:24

Hey all! Sorry I've been gone so long. Life got a hold and wouldn't let go! I wrote this today on the whim. Let me know what you think!

When Life Is...

When life is a smog that I can't see through,
Help me to lean more heavily on you
When life is misty with tears from a loss
Help me to trust you, not count you as the cause
When life is hot and I'm full of pride
Help me to step down and let you decide
When life is cold with rigid fear
Help me remember you're always near

Help me remember you're the Author of Life
And that you're in control through joy and strife.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this poem? Are you in any of these areas of life right now? Have any title suggestions? My title wasn't to good... Do you think I portrayed my theme of "Pointing Life back to God" well? Did you miss my presence in the blogosphere?Wink

P.S. Keep a lookout for the new page on the sidebar that's coming soon!! Smile

The Blessed, Holy Trinity!

by Grace 7. July 2017 23:45

Hey everyone! It feels to me that it's been a while since I've posted anything! I guess it probably hasn't been too long though. ;)

The Trinity is a very beautiful thing to me. We've been learning a lot about this recently in church, and that's what inspired me to write this poem. I hadn't realized how amazing and inspiring the Trinity was until about a month ago. I mean, of course, I've always known God is three in one and that is the Trinity and that God is absolutely pure and holy, but I didn't know the depth of His beauty was until I had heard more on the Trinity.

Without further ado, here's the poem!

The Blessed, Holy Trinity

The sacred, divine Trinity

A holy doctrine unto me

Three in one

One in three

The Blessed, Holy Trinity.

This awe-inspiring Trinity

Together saves and blesses me

The Father, Son

And Spirit be

The Blessed, Holy Trinity.

The sacred, lovely Trinity;

It reaches down to you and me.

We don’t deserve

This grace of thee

The Blessed, Holy Trinity.

The Son has died for you and me

The Father blesses me and thee

The Holy Spirit

Dwells in me

The Blessed, Holy Trinity.

Because God is the three in one

Of disagreements, there are none.

The harmony!

The Unity!

The Blessed, Holy Trinity!

This Unity, this Trinity

Is very beautiful to me

I overflow

With praise of thee

The Blessed, Holy Trinity!

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this poem? Have you ever realized how amazing the Trinity is?

Salt and Light

by Grace 24. June 2017 17:01
Hey everyone! Here's another poem I wrote a little while back. It was derived from one of my favorite passages in the Bible. Let me know what you think!

Salt and Light (Matt. 13-16)
You are salt upon the earth.
If you’ve no flavor, what’s your worth?
All that’s left for you my friend
Is to be trodden underfoot by men.

You’re a lamp for God; a light
That should be always gleaming bright.
If you have let your light grow dim
You stunt your usefulness to Him.

So keep your salty flavor in,
Guard your flame from liquid sin,
Lead the hell-bound souls from strife,
And let your lamp shine eternal life.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this poem? What are some of your favorite passages in the Bible?

Summer Special Tag

by Grace 19. June 2017 21:18

Hello everyone! I was tagged by Grace, who blogs over at Grace Notes (Thanks Grace!). I'm super excited about this because, as you all probably know, I've never been tagged before! Alright, so let's get started!

1) What is a nickname only your family calls you?
Um… I don’t really have any! I know my Mom calls me Cinderella sometimes… That’s about it. My name doesn’t really have any add-ons and most of my family members don’t usually make up weird random names for each other. I sometimes call one of my little brothers ‘Ducky,’ but that’s about it.
2) What’s a weird habit of yours?
Smelling my fingers… XD
3) Do you have any strange phobias?
No, not that I can think of… Except fearing that I've really messed something up - but there's a somewhat embarrassing reason for that... Occasionally I'm pretty good at messing things up! ;) (By the way, do you know how many times I've already gone back and edited this post??? More times than I'd like to admit!)
4) What’s a song that you secretly like to blast and belt out when you’re alone?
Well, what I blast and belt when I’m alone is the same thing I’ll blast and belt through the house, haha! I sing a pretty wide variety of songs, but recently I’ve been singing Meet Me at the Cross by Liberty Quartet a whole lot, and I also often sing Salt and Light by the Bontragers a lot. And then I also sing songs that I've written a lot. But honestly, what I sing changes a lot. Next week it'll probably be Kingdom Heirs, next week Triumphant Quartet, next Greater Vision, next Legacy Five, next week the Wiggles or Veggie Tales... Okay, maybe not. But you get the point. It really just matters what I've been listening to recently. My all-time favorite songs are probably I’ve Just Started Living and the hymn There Is a Fountain.
5) What’s one of your pet peeves?
Tapping. I hate the sound of people tapping. I hate seeing people tap… Even if I can’t hear it.
6) What’s one of your nervous habits?
I have trouble eating sometimes. That’s about it. I don’t get nervous generally unless I’m around people and I’m uncomfortable, and in that case I usually just leave the area. I’m an introvert, by the way. :)
7) What’s a YouTuber that almost always makes you laugh?
I don’t watch any specific YouTubers, and I really only use it for Southern Gospel music. But I did get a good kick out of this video and this one that my brother Daniel made for his YouTube Channel. Also, Southern Gospel singers can make some of the most hilarious jokes I’ve ever heard, so I occasionally get a good laugh out of them!
8) What was your first stuffed animal and what was its name?
Oh goodness! I don’t remember! I do remember having this little grey and white kitten that I adored, but I don’t remember its name and it disappeared one day and I don’t know what happened to it! Never found it again. *Sniffs*
9) What’s the drink you always order at Starbucks?
Ehehe… Believe it or not, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten anything at Starbucks. :/
10) Do you have any weird body skills?
I can roll the ends of my tongue up so that the sides touch! That’s about it…
11) What’s your favorite comfort food that’s bad but you eat it anyways?
ICECREAM!!! I’m honestly not very much of a dessert person. I’d usually rather eat salad or something. But I will ALWAYS eat ice cream. And I mean ALWAYS. I also enjoy donuts quite a bit, but even those I might skip occasionally.
12) What’s a phrase or exclamation you always say?
Um… I don’t know… ‘Oh my’… ‘Oops’… ‘No no that’s naughty’… Yeah, not much. XD
13) What did you use to wear that you would never wear now?
I don’t know… There’s not really anything that I wore before that I wouldn’t wear again.
14) What did you want to be when you were young?
Hm… A mother. I think that’s it. :)
15) How tall are you?
I’m 5’5½”. But that's when Mom measures me. Dad has measured me the past few times, and he says I'm half an inch shorter than that. Haha!

Bonus Question: What are 5 ways to win your heart/become a great friend?
1. Doing something related to music with me. Chatting about Southern Gospel Quartets, singing harmony, playing instruments, asking me to perform… That’s a good way to start! Giving my favorite style of music a shot, really. Not many people like the type of music I enjoy these days. :(
2. Talk to me and expect me to listen to you. Seriously. If you want to become my friend, sit and talk to me about whatever you want. I usually don’t have much of my own to say, especially when meeting for the first time.
3. Be the first one to approach! XD I’m an introvert, so I have trouble approaching people, and I have trouble with thinking that people don’t want to talk to me, don’t like me, and that I’m boring people. That's something that I've really been working on changing.

4. Buy me a Dairy Queen Blizzard! XD
5. Talk to me about something deep. I don’t particularly enjoy small-talk. I’d rather talk about theology or prayer requests or thoughts on life or personal things and stuff like that. If it’s small-talk, trust that I won’t have much to add to the conversation. Sure, if you start cracking jokes and what-not, I’ll join in and laugh. Everyone in my family knows I’ll laugh at anything that’s supposed to be a joke, even if it isn’t really funny. But don’t expect me to add anything to the conversation! I’m horrible at jokes, by the way… :/
6. (Yes, before you say anything, I know there wasn’t supposed to be a six.) Chat with me about some poetry and some lyrics! This is kind of a mix between one and five. Talk about whether the lyrics were any good or not, what you liked about them, how good the alliteration was in the words, stuff like that.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed my two-cents worth! And to wrap up, I'll tag a few other people:

Allison @ fromallison.com

Lizbeth @ lizbetherazo.weebly.com/

Joy @ cherrytreepoet.wordpress.com/ and blogofjoy.com

SOFP Entry!

by Grace 16. June 2017 22:26

Hey everyone! We've got another SOFP guest post! This is by my dear friend Olivia Bell (thanks Livy!!)! I hope you enjoy this beautiful poem as much as I did!

The Seasons are changing

The Lord has put the earthly seasons into motion

They come and go with or without emotion

It starts with the coming of winter, the season of snow and ice

When the powder falls it looks very nice

All the excited children run outdoors to play

In the sparkling white of the blustery day

Skiing and snowboarding at daring high speeds

Having enough thrills and excitement to satisfy their needs

The glistening white snow stays only for a short while

Leaving behind nothing but a dirty, brown pile

Everyone is ready for spring to have sprung at last

Planting their gardens when the threat of frost has passed

Colorful flowers sprouting up and blooming

Harvesting time is soon to be looming

Summer has now arrived, swelteringly hot

All the children go swimming, as they have been taught

At the end of the hot day people enjoy cold ice cream

Everyone is so happy this could be a dream

Then all of the trees turn to bright fall colors

Harvesting time comes and everyone helps their mothers

With the canning and preserving of their God-given food

When all the sudden winter has once again ensued

The Seasons keep right on going by fast

None of them ever really seem to last

That’s the way it certainly will be

Forever into eternity

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy Olivia's entry? Would YOU be interested in doing SOFP?

He Understands

by Grace 13. June 2017 12:19

Hey everyone! Here's a song that I just recently finished writing. Let me know what you think! And, please, if you're willing, take a close look at it. Be critical. See if there's anything I should change. Does it stay on topic? Is it clear? Does it make sense? Does it flow? Especially if you've had any experience in analyzing literature. I want to make this as good as possible. Don't be afraid to offend me if you see things that need major changes. If you don't feel that whatever you have to say should go into a public comment, you can go to 'Contact' and get a hold of me through there.

Thanks!

He Understands

Verse 1: Things in this world

Do not always go right

Sometimes it seems

There’s no reason to fight

But cling to the Lord

Trust that He has a plan

Rely on His wisdom

And hold fast to His hand

Chorus: For God understands more than anyone can

And everything flows under His pure command

In your deepest despair He will always be there

Just trust that it’s in His plan

And that He understands

Verse 2: Our heavenly Father

Wants what’s best for us

He counts it as joy

His children to bless

But trials are part of

Our spiritual growth

The good times and bad times

Our Lord planned them both

 It’s still gonna hurt

And you’re still gonna cry

You’re still gonna wonder

And you’re gonna ask why

But I know He’ll give grace

Right through to the end

And will remain

Your truest friend

Bridge: When you walk through the Valley

Of the Shadow of death

When you face storms of life

Or the pangs of regret

When you're weary of life

And you can't see God's plan

Just rest in His grace;

For He understands

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy this song? Any suggestions for change?

Shout Out to Fellow Poets (SOFP) Entry!

by Grace 10. June 2017 19:50

Hey everyone! Here's the first SOFP submission ever! This poem is by Lizbeth Erazo. (Thanks Lizbeth!) I really enjoyed it, and I hope you do too! Be sure to let her know what you think in the comments!

Old For New

What was torn you mend again
You redesign the tattered thread by thread
You take the broken and destroyed
You rebuild, You make whole

Joy begin to rise
Hope begin to light the dark
Our God exchanges old for new
Dawn has conquered night
Death has lost to life
And now we are exchanging old for new

You turn our flame into a fire
In You we walk in the impossible
We take Your love into the world
We let our light shine, we let it burn

There’s nothing that Your love won’t do
There’s not a mountain faith can’t move
There’s power in the blood
The power of the cross

Now let's hear from you!

Did you enjoy Lizbeth's entry? Would YOU be interested in doing SOFP?

I'm Moving Up to a Mansion Bright/Upcoming post(s)

by Grace 5. June 2017 22:05

Hey everyone! Here's the words to a song that I wrote in 2014. Enjoy!

I'm Moving Up to a Mansion Bright

Verse 1:I'm moving up to

a mansion bright

I'm heading upwards

to love and light

I'm going home to

see my Lord there

A land to dwell in

Without a care

Verse 2:

I'm going to see

those who have gone

Before me when their

race had been won

I'm gonna greet them

on that glad day

And we'll be happy

in every way

Verse 3:

When up to heaven

I finally rise

I will rejoice

Within paradise!

I'm gonna shout of

God's victory

I'll join the song of

Grand Jubilee!

Chorus:

I'm going upwards

to see Christ there

In all His glory

so bright and fair

I'm going upwards

I'm headed homewards

I'm going up to

heaven so fair

Also, I was thinking of maybe doing something special, like interviewing someone, having someone do a guest post (by the way, check out the 'Shout Out to Fellow Poets' on the sidebar!) doing a post-a-day for a week challenge, or having a Q+A where y'all ask questions in the comments and I answer. What do y'all think? If I were to do one of those, which would be most interesting to you?

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the song? Any suggestions as to how it could be better? And what d'y'all think of a special post/post series? What would you suggest? Do any of you have any topic suggestions for future poems?

High Towers

by Grace 1. June 2017 21:42

Here's a poem I wrote in 2013. This was a fun one! Interesting things come up while the narrator tells the story. A few things that may confuse you when you first start reading, but you realize something about the character and his tower at the last two lines.

No, this is not a true story... Enjoy!

Towers

I wanted to be famous,

To be somebody great.

I wanted to be special

So a tower I did create.

It's walls were green and purple,

And yellow and maroon.

It took me super long;

From dawn 'till afternoon.

But as I took a break

The baby saw my work

And with one tiny whack

My precious tower he broke.

Bitterly I wept

As I cleaned up 'til ten.

And out of bitterness

I've never touched a block again.

Haha... I almost called this one Tower of Babel. XD

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the poem? Did you understand what the tower was made of at the end or did it leave you confused? At the beginning of the poem did you realize it was a child or were you fooled into thinking that it was a grown man building his own little 'tower of babel'??? Let me know what you think!

Troubled Waters

by Grace 30. May 2017 23:38

This is something that I sat down and wrote a few moments ago. I tried to incorporate a strong theme of water into it. I also tried a new little rhyme scheme other than the usual alternating rhyme for lines - ABABB.

Troubled Waters

When storm clouds roll across the sky

When thunder fills the air

Remember, Christ's your shelter

You can take your refuge there

God will always keep you in His care.

When troubles swirl about you

At a speed that feels insane

Remember, Christ is with you

And that He can ease your pain

Dance with joy and laughter in the rain.

Remember that these waters full

Of doubt and pain and fear...

They do not last forever--

For a short time they are here.

And after trials blessings will appear.

Now let's hear from you!

Did you like the poem? Did I do a good job of incorporating a strong theme of water? Any suggestions as to how I could change it to make it better? Did you enjoy the abnormal rhyme scheme? Do y'all know what a rhyme scheme is??? Let me know your thoughts!

Greetings!

Hello there and welcome to my blog! My name is Grace and I’m a 17-year-old home-schooled country girl who has a passion for following Jesus, writing music and poetry, singing, public performance, debate, big families, and Southern Gospel Music.

Here’s a few fun facts about me:

-I’m the third oldest of 10 kids, and the oldest girl.

-I can play the guitar, the mandolin, the violin, a little piano, the double bass, the harmonica, and a little bit of the organ. However, I usually stick to the first four.

-I’m homeschooled.

-I live on 50 acres.

-I LOVE Southern Gospel Music (all though I’m not southern at all… I’m in Oregon).

-Some of my favorite music groups are the Kingdom Heirs, the Bontrager Family Singers, and the Cathedral Quartet. I also enjoy listening to the Mylon Hayes Family, Legacy Five, Greater Vision, and Triumphant Quartet.

-I love singing and so do my siblings. We are actually currently working on a cd together! We’ve made two cds before, but those were sold only to friends and family. The one we’re working on we’re hoping to set out for public purchase!

-I love writing music and poetry and have been doing it ever since I was nine.

I’ve wanted to start a blog for a while, but one of the main things that changed it from dream to reality was the fact that I couldn’t keep up with everyone who wanted to hear and read my poetry. Emails, writing groups, family get-togethers… I decided to put it all in one place where everyone could access it easily at any time. Although this blog won’t be exclusively poetry, it will have a lot of it. (:

Feel free to stay a while and drop me a comment or two!

-Grace
